First drawing for the Character Design animation experiment. Why I capitalize "character design" I don't know.

Denver Comic Con 2012!

That's right!  Denver Comic Con 2012!  I will be there!  Will you?

Actually, I'm going to be in Artist Alley selling the BAND comic issues 1-3.  If you're around, please stop by and say hi!  And if you don't have a copy of the comics, then shell out some dough!  I have cats to feed!  :D

Character Design animation idea

I've had this idea rattling around in the back of my head for a little while now, and I finally found some time to get started on it.  I was actually in Jury Duty and my laptop couldn't run the storyboard software I'm using for work, so I just decided to load up good ol' PAP and do this!

The idea is that I start off with a base pencil test:

... but for each frame of animation, I design an entirely different character.  Hopefully this will end up looking cool, but if not, it will be a fun experiment.  I plan on uploading each design here and on my DA site basakward.deviantart.com as I progress.  It will keep them alive for at least a little while, eh?

My MegaCon animation

This is an ad I made for the MegaCon convention I will be attending.  If you're in the Orlando area and have a couple bucks to spend, definitely stop by and say hi!

Mossgod animation

A little something I did for my good friend Dirk Schulz.  His name is Mossgod from Dirk's Themrog stories.

Check out Dirk's work at themrock.deviantart.com ..  You won't be disappointed.  :)

Rooster rough keys

This is something I'm working on in my free time. I just got off a nice freelance animation gig which got the animation ball rolling again, so I really want to keep the momentum and not slip back into just drawing and storyboarding. This is for a personal project that I'm working on, and so far I'm only happy with the rooster's design, so I'm just doing an animation test. I want to go the whole nine yards with this piece as well because I have ideas in integrating Plastic Animation Paper and ToonBoom Animate into a little workflow that might give me the end result I want. I just hope I can find a good design for the basset hound that I can hang my hat on so I can get him to play off of the rooster.

The first issue of BAND is on Indy Planet!

Whew!  After much...  Uhh...  Patience, the first issue of the comic I've been working on is up on Indy Planet.  ROCK!  I did all of the artwork, my wife did all of the writing.  So if you were wondering what I've been up to for the last couple years, this is a good chunk of it.  Haha!  If you do grab yourself a copy, and you like it (or even if you don't, that's cool) please leave us a review and tell me what you think!  You can leave a review under the "extra info" tab.

Let's start this on a high note!

Ok.  This is my first step into the wild world of blogging.  So I'll start this out with my latest news of getting a little of my work into the Dick Figures music video.  I love the series and I'm really happy to know that I have a little part in the DF history books.

Here's the whole video:

And here's my clip:

I've been getting a lot of awesome compliments from both the viewers and from the creators themselves.  I really didn't think my clip would get a reaction like this.  Whew!

I did my clip with "Plastic Animation Paper" a free 2D software that I am absolutely in love with.  There are elements that REALLY need work, but the drawing tools are the best I've used for a stand-alone 2D animation software.  Ask anyone, I am a walking billboard for PAP.
